Valve Automation: Pneumatic and Electric Actuators — Cematic

Valve Automation: Pneumatic and Electric Actuators — Cematic

Automating your valves is the first step towards a more efficient, safer, and connected industrial process. At Cematic, we offer complete valve automation solutions, from pneumatic or electric actuators to digital positioners with HART communication, all assembled, tested, and ready to integrate into your PLC, DCS, or SCADA system.

It is no longer necessary to buy the valve from one supplier, the actuator from another, and the positioner from a third. At Cematic, we deliver the complete assembly as a single unit, with guaranteed compatibility and technical support from a single point of contact.

Types of automation available

·       Double-acting pneumatic actuators (air to open and air to close) — total control and fast response.

·       Single-acting pneumatic actuators with spring return (fail-safe open / fail-safe close) — safety in case of air failure.

·       Electric actuators with torque from 20 Nm to 1,000 Nm — for applications without air supply or in remote areas.

·       Digital positioners with 4–20 mA / HART signal for precise modulating control from PLC or DCS.

·       Digital position indicators with local display and signal output for SCADA.

·       Solenoid valve boxes with 24VDC, 110VAC, and 220VAC coils for pneumatic control from PLC.

·       Safety shut-off valves (On/Off) for emergency shutdowns (ESD).

Pneumatic or electric actuator? How to choose the right one

The pneumatic actuator is the standard option when a compressed air network already exists on site. It is more economical, faster, and more robust for frequent cycles. The electric actuator is ideal when air is unavailable, when exact positioning with encoders is required, or in remote installations powered by solar energy or batteries. At Cematic, we advise you on the correct selection according to your application, required torque, cycle frequency, and process conditions.

Industry 4.0 and smart valve control

Our digital positioners transform any valve into an intelligent node in your industrial network. Through 4–20 mA signals or HART, Profibus-PA, and Foundation Fieldbus protocols, your control system receives real-time exact valve position, cycle history, and wear alerts. This enables predictive maintenance, reduces unscheduled downtime, and helps you comply with Industry 4.0 standards in your plant.

What each Cematic automated assembly includes

·       Valve selected according to your fluid, pressure, and process temperature

·       Pneumatic or electric actuator sized with a safety factor above the required torque

·       ISO 5211 mounting bracket and coupling included

·       Digital positioner or position indicator according to the required control level

·       Documented operational test before shipment

·       Technical data sheet and electrical/pneumatic connection diagram

Frequently Asked Questions

❓ Can I use an existing pneumatic actuator in my plant with a new valve?

It depends on the torque and the ISO 5211 mounting pattern. At Cematic, we verify technical compatibility before confirming the order. If the actuator is not compatible, we will recommend the appropriate actuator for your valve.

❓ Is the digital positioner compatible with my Siemens / Allen-Bradley PLC?

Yes. Digital positioners with 4–20 mA signal and HART protocol are universally compatible with any brand of PLC or DCS. You only need an analog output and an analog input on your controller.

❓ What happens to the valve if the compressed air supply fails?

With a single-acting actuator, you can define the fail-safe position: the valve can remain open (fail-open) or closed (fail-close) by spring return, without the need for power or air. This is essential in emergency shutdown (ESD) systems.

❓ What is the delivery time for assembled units?

Standard assemblies have a delivery time of 3 to 7 business days, depending on inventory availability. For special projects or non-standard materials, we will provide the estimated time at the time of quotation.
